About us

URBSEC is an open and accessible meeting place for scholars and scientists; for private and public sector experts; and for other invited experts and lay people from civil society as well as the voluntary sector. Participants are joined by an ambition to develop research and innovations beyond cognitive locks and institutional borders.

URBSEC is devoted to the development of knowledge and innovations that contribute to new goods and services as well as more enlightened discourse with regard to pressing problems and dilemmas of urban safety and societal security. URBSEC research seeks solutions and innovations that further democratic development and transparency as well as long-term economic, environmental, and social sustainability.

URBSEC organizes projects in cross-disciplinary teams in collaboration with external both national and international partners in order to build competitive research and innovations with high societal relevance and utility in a range of areas corresponding to the wide competence of participating departments and partners.

URBSEC seeks to integrate research projects with relevant undergraduate and graduate teaching at the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology, and aims to develop an integrated Master’s Degree Program in Urban Safety and Societal Security jointly operated by the two universities and with high relevance for multiple professional careers.
