URBSEC seminar October 12: Juho Lindman on Blockchain Technologies

News: Oct 03, 2016

On Wednesday October 12, Juho Lindman, D.Sc. (Econ.) and Associate Senior Lecturer, from the Department of Applied IT, Chalmers and University of Gothenburg, will give a talk in the URBSEC lunch seminar series on blockchain technology. A blockchain is a distributed database that is maintained by a network of users. The important novelty is that users of such a blockchain make use of a specific protocol to send, receive, and verify information, in the process of adding blocks. This enables a system for value-transactions with high security, and this is why interest has been shown particularly from the financial industries. In his talk, Juho will build on earlier literature on payments and payment platforms, and touch upon Bitcoin, which is one example where blockchain technology is used. He will also highlight opportunities opened up by the technology to develop and offer new open source-based types of digital platforms and services, as well as address risks for users and stakeholder organizations.
