URBSEC Project Catalog

The projects listed below have been initiated within and are managed and performed as collaborative efforts in the URBSEC context. In additon, several other department-based projects of relevance to the area of urban safety and societal security are run by researchers affiliated with URBSEC. Please consult the link Participating Departments and further links to individual researchers for more information about such projects.

2016, November: Reconciliatory Heritage: Reconstructing Heritage in a Time of Violent Fragmentations is an URBSEC-based project with the overarching objective to investigate the possibilities that heritage may offer as a tool and meeting place for dialogue, mediation, reconciliation, and conflict resolution. Project leader Michael Landzelius, Associate Professor and Director of URBSEC, is joined by six other researchers from University of Gothenburg and Karlstad University: Professor Ola Sigurdson and Associate Professor Klas Grinell, Literature, History of Ideas, and Religion, GU; Associate Professor Mikael Baaz, Law, GU; PhD Feras Hammami, Conservation, GU; PhD Evren Uzer von Busch, School of Design and Crafts, GU; and Associate Professor Mona Lilja, Sociology, KaU. Funding: The Swedish Research Council, 2017-2020.

2016, May: Transparent Information Management and Collaboration for Increased Safety and Security of Dangerous Goods Transports (TISS) is an URBSEC-coordinated project that focuses on transports of dangerous goods and needs of, as well as hurdles to, harmonization across modes of transport along the supply chain. Researchers: Professor Lars-Göran Malmberg and Doctor Ann-Sophie Sallander, Law, GU; Associate Professors Kalevi Pessi and Urban Nuldén, Applied IT, GU and Chalmers; Professor Johan Woxenius and Doctor Jonas Flodén, Business Administration, GU. Funding: The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), 2016-2020.

2015, January: Real Time Decision Support for Managing Critical Urban Flows - Phase 4. Project collaboration with the Saab Group. Researchers: Associate Professor Ulrika Palme, Energy and Environment, Chalmers; Doctor Gary Kokk, School of Public Administration, University of Gothenburg. Funding: Security Arena, Lindholmen Science Park.

2015, January: Social Media and Crisis Communication (SOMCRISC) - Phase 4. Project collaboration with Ericsson and Carmenta. Researchers: Associate Professor Marina Ghersetti (PI), and Associate Professor Oscar Westlund, Journalism, Media and Communication; Associate Professor Bertil Rolandsson, and PhD Jesper Petersson, Sociology and Work Science, University of Gothenburg. Funding: Security Arena, Lindholmen Science Park.

2015, January: Harmonized Intelligent Transport Support for Dangerous Goods - Phase 2. Project collaboration with University of Lund and a consortium of private sector parties. Researchers: Professor Lars-Göran Malmberg (PI); and PhD Ann-Sophie Sallander, Law, University of Gothenburg. Funding: Security Arena, Lindholmen Science Park.

2014, February: Risk Group Analysis and Case Studies of Accidents in Home Environments. The research group consists of Associate Professor Inga Malmqvist, Associate Professor Robert Ekman; and PhD Candidate Charlotta Thodelius, Architecture, Chalmers; PhD Hans Ekbrand, Sociology and Work Science; PhD Björn Andersson; and Associate Professor Jörgen Lundälv, Social Work, University of Gothenburg. Funding: The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), 2014-2018.
