HORIZON 2020: Secure Societies. Follow the link for continuously updated information on Secure Societies – Protecting Freedom and Security of Europe and its Citizens, one of the challenges identified in Horizon 2020 - the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.

NORDFORSK: Nordic Societal Security Programme. This is a running program with continuous calls. There is now (winter 2015-16) a call for proposals on Society, Integrity and Cyber‐security.

MSB:The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) announces a series of thematic calls every year. The link takes you directly to relevant updated information.

BRANDFORSK: The Swedish Fire Research Board is a funding agency with support from insurance companies, industry, local authorities and the Swedish government that funds projects in the fire safety area.

General Funding and Calls

FORMAS: The Swedish Research Council FORMAS offers funding for research in the areas environment, agricultural sciences and spatial planning, with a particular focus on sustainability.

FORTE: The Swedish Research Council for Health, Working Life, and Welfare supports basic- and needs driven research of societal relevance within the three areas health, working life and welfare.

RIKSBANKENS JUBILEUMSFOND (RJ): The Swedish Foundation for Humanities and Social Sciences is an independent foundation that offers several forms of research funding.

SIDA: The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency is a government agency with the mission to reduce world poverty and offers support for e.g. research cooperation, challenge calls, and scholarships.

VETENSKAPSRÅDET (VR): The Swedish Research Council (VR) offers funding for research, guest professorships, etc., in many areas of science, including the humanities.

VINNOVA: The Swedish Government Agency for Innovation Systems promotes sustainable growth by improving the conditions for innovation, as well as by funding needs-driven research.

Both the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology offer support and services to researchers that are in the process of applying for research funding. Make contact with the URSBEC director or follow the links in the right column to the support divisions of both universities. You will find information about whom to contact for advice on international funding opportunities; on financial and administrative aspects of proposals; and on any other queries you may have.
