Priority Areas

Research on safety and security issues is wide-ranging, cuts across disciplinary boundaries, and is engaged in from a multitude of perspectives. In this broad field, URBSEC seeks to integrate perspectives and researchers in practice-oriented projects and programs. In this ambition, the URBSEC Steering Group has identified four Priority Areas in which University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology have capacities to develop particularly strong research and innovation.

URBSEC research seeks synergy and added value through joint efforts and processes in which university researchers are engaged together with professionals from private enterprise as well as from the public and voluntary sectors. Working in close collaboration within URBSEC-organized teams, the joint efforts are expected to produce results of excellent scholarly quality, of added value for both society and business.

Overlap between prioritized research areas is seen as a source of creative possibility since URBSEC aims to achieve knowledge of higher quality and relevance through flows of theory, methods, ideas, and experiences. The four Priority Areas are:
